An empty stock Class 127 unit was struck on a crossover by another Class 127 unit which had passed two red signals. The latter was deflected towards the Down fast line where it was struck a glancing blow by an express passenger train hauled by a Class 45 locomotive. Minor injuries. More Details.

After 55000 had shunted from platform 1 to 2 at Stratford-upon-Avon on 16 May 1986 an arrival from Birmingham Moor Street was allowed to enter the station ready to form the 08.26 back to Birmingham. Tyseley class 116 unit T627 formed of 53061 + 59613 + 53092 is shown here passing the inner home signal with the starters for platform 3 and the Cold Store siding on the right of the picture. Half of Stratford East (sometimes wrongly called Stratford North) signalbox is just visible at the back of the 3 car unit. Peter Tandy.

Evening at Moor Street. One of Tyseley's Derby suburban 3 car dmu sets is poised to work the 20.40 hrs service along the North Warwickshire line to Shirley. 53061 is at the far end (image 31469), closest are presumably 53112 + 59613. These 1957 built units took over from steam and gave 30 years service until they were replaced by Class 150 units in 1987. Birmingham Moor St looks fairly clean and tidy in this shot taken 15th December 1986, the platforms and their infrastucture are much the same today but the clear view of the Rotunda is masked by the Selfridge building. B.R. Derby MBS 53061 has just arrived at Birmingham Moor Street, it will form the 19.40 Birmingham to Shirley train. The other two vehicles are presumably 59613 + 53112. Moor St has grown since this was taken on 15th December 1986, the area behind the spear fence was the old carriage sidings, it is now the new buildings that form the island between platforms 2 and 3. Class 116 DMU set T608 with cars 51131 + 59613 + 51144 climbing Hatton Bank on 15 April 1987 with a Leamington to Birmingham Moor Street train. Fire damage to the cutting from a lineside fire is visible and it seems that the bridge over Dark Lane was all that stopped it spreading further south. Peter Tandy.
