An official image (Derby Works negative 57/463) showing the non-smoking compartment in a trailer composite from the first batch of Derby suburban triple sets (thought to be W59000) circa April 1957. British Railways.
An official image (Derby Works negative 57/468) showing the first class areas in a trailer composite (thought to be W59000) from the first batch of Derby suburban triple sets circa April 1957. Taken in the smoking compartments looking through to the non-smoking, behind the solid partition was not the end of the vehicle but a second class compartment. The seat material was the same pattern used on other builds such as the West Riding and West Cumberland Derby Lightweights, although in third class not first. British Railways.
A Derby Works image (negative 57/470) showing the ends of TC W59000 (left) and DMBS W50050 (right) when new circa April 1957. The gear on the end of the centre car is for the communication cord. Note the far side has a footstep and handrail for staff to reach the reset 'butterfly', on the closest side they are not fitted but there are bolts where they should be. The writing on the lower corner reads in different rows 'C' (for composite, the vehicle type) 'TRIPLE' (the formation), 'S.P. 3-59' ('Shopping Proposal' - its next works date), 'NEW - 2001' (2001 is the code for Derby Works), '11-3-57' and then a paint date which is not readable. British Railways.
The first Derby suburban set on trial / driver training on the 4th May 1957. 50050 leads 59000 and presumably 50092 at Tyseley, taken at 3.47pm. Michael Mensing.
The first Derby suburban triple (Class 116) DMU when brand new circa April 1957. The vehicles in this Derby Works image (negative 57/461) are W50050 + W59000 + W50092 probably taken at Rushton on the Churnet Valley line. Note the marker lamps on the cab front, they are not painted in the cab colour as they normally were. Also the outer pair are shallower than normal and have a plate fitted over them. British Railways.
A Derby Works image (negative 57/462) showing the first Derby suburban triple (Class 116) DMU. Formed of W50092 + W59000 + W50050 it was delivered to Tyseley in April 1957. The marker lamp casings on the lower cab front are not painted in the body colour as they normally were; the outer pair are shallower than normal with plates over them. Taken at Rushton station on the Churnet Valley line, looking south. British Railways.

Tyseley Class 116 DMU set TY500 (presumably formed of 50061 + 59000 + 50092) in Small Heath station in mid-1973. Michael Mensing.
Helsby Junction 20/8/74. A Class 101 2-car on the 10.10 Chester - Man Vic, with Class 116 3-car suburban unit 50093,59000,50062 on the Hooton branch service. My notes on the print say it stayed for a month on this service. Anthony Griffiths.
A freshly-refurbished Class 116 set on Swindon Works on 6 May 1976. The Tyseley blind and cut buffers suggests the vehicles are 50061 + 59000 + 50092. Steve Davies Collection.
Class 116 DMU set TS500 (presumably formed of 50061 + 59000 + 50092) leaves Hall Green with the 18:42pm Birmingham Moor Street - Shirley service on 22 May 1976. Michael Mensing.
Having terminated at Shirley with a service from Birmingham, Tyseley class 116 Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) TS500 (presumably 50061 + 59000 + 50092) has pulled out of the station and after the driver changed ends, waits to cross over from the up to the down line and return as the 1829 to Birmingham Moor St on 2 September 1978.
