Two Trans-Pennine DMUs in Doncaster station at 7.30pm one evening, with a queue of people waiting to board the set in platform 4. There were no details with this transparency. The condition of the DMC on the left - with the missing white dots and the offset lamp bracket on the right - matches E51958 circa 1982. The DMC on the right with the plated headcode and headlamp matches E51961 at this time. Stuart Mackay Collection.
E51958 + E59767 + E59839 + E51951 arrive into Leeds on January 25, 1982. John Carter.
The class 124 'Trans-Pennine' DMUs worked from Hull from their initial introduction in 1959 to their enventual demise in the mid-80s. By 1984 they were operating in 4-car 'hybrid' sets along with former WR class 123 units. Here DMC E51958 rests at Hull Paragon's buffer stops on 28/04/1984. 53A Models of Hull Collection.
A Trans-Pennine DMU in Stalybridge station on 12 September 1977. The vehicles were recorded on the slide as 51956 + 51981 + 59769 + 51975 + 51958. Stuart Mackay Collection.
A Swindon-built DMU formation (51954 + 59838 + 59235 + 51958) is seen in Sheffield station with a Manchester - Hull service on 2/6/83. Most vehicles are Class 124 Trans-Pennines, the third in the formation is a Class 123 trailer second. Stuart Mackay Collection.
Swindon-built "Inter City" set with E52102 nearest the camera has just arrived at Hull Paragon with a train from Manchester on 30th April 1984. In the background, Trans-Pennine DMU E51958 is at the front of another service over the "Backbone of England". This was the last photo I took of these rather wonderful units, as within a few days of this they were all withdrawn from service. Syd Young.
