circa 1969

A three-car hybrid set at Derby Midland circa 1969. Closest is BRC&W DMC M50501, possibly the only vehicle of the type to have a full yellow end while still in green livery, also unusual in having a first class stripe. The other two vehicles are in blue, a BRC&W centre car and a Cravens DMBS. Nottingham is on the destination blind. Graham Clark.

Class 104 DMU at Grange-over-Sands

1988

One day in 1988, a Lancaster-Barrow dmu failed and was hauled by 31141. This image shows the Barrow bound train waiting to leave Grange over Sands and shows the leading coach to be class 104 DMSL M53501 which was based at Newton Heath from May 1987 until withdrawal in March 1989. 31141 was a Bescot engine from November 1987 until November 1988 when it moved to Crewe, then withdrawn in January 1989. 1988

One day in 1988, a Lancaster-Barrow dmu (Class 104 DMSL 53501 and Class 108 DMBS 53977) failed and was hauled by 31141. This image shots shows the Barrow bound train arriving at Grange over Sands. 31141 was a Bescot engine from November 1987 until November 1988 when it moved to Crewe, then withdrawn in January 1989. Class 104 DMU at Lodge Lane, Farington Moss

7th January 1988

Having climbed the gradient from Farington Curve Junction on the WCML, a two-car Class 104/108 hybrid DMU formed of cars M53501 & M53934 was passing Lodge Lane Crossing on Farington Moss with a lunchtime Preston to Ormskirk service on January 7th 1988. In the foreground is the part dismantled former Up Line that was taken out of use in 1983, prior to which double track had been retained from Farington Curve Junction to Midge Hall. The DMU is passing through the site of the one-time Moss Lane Junction, where until 1972 there was a direct link from the Ormskirk route that connected with the East Lancashire line at the top of Farington Curve.
