DMU Operations: Western Region


Leamington Spa - Stratford-upon-Avon

DMUs were introduced to these services on 17 June 1957 along with other Western Region local services in the Birmingham area. Derby suburban triples (Class 116s) were used allocated to Tyseley depot.

Once the GRC&W single cars (Class 122s) were delivered they became the norm on the route.

In January 1963 the route became part of the London Midland Region.

W51581 leads the 11.35am Stratford-upon-Avon - Leamington Spa as it begins the descent of Hatton Bank on 20/09/61. Note the 'markings' on the cab dome.
