It was stated that although the diesel portion of the new shed was complete, it was still not possible to transfer multiple units from Toton, as the necessary cleaning could not be carried out at Etches Park due to the permanent way work in the carriage shed portion of the scheme being incomplete. It was agreed that the Servicing and Maintenance Sub-Committee give special attention to the question at their meeting on July 12th.
Discussion arose over the installation of fuelling points at Kirkdale and Bank Hall as alternatives to the provision of a pipe-line and it was agreed that the Servicing and Maintenance Sub-Committee look specially into the matter at their meeting on July 12th.
Mr. Lawrence stated that investigations into the possibiliy of introducing a multiple unit service on this line in September, 1960 to ameliorate the shortage of firemen as Neasden was proceeding but up to the present it had not been possible to show a sufficient profitable saving of staff to justify the proposal.
The Chairman stated that a meeting of representatives of departments concerned would shortly be held to reconsider the requirements at this Depot and within the existing authority.
Noted that the first of the Inter-City sets had been delivered from Swindon to the North Eastern Region. Mr.Gould will ascertain when one of the units is going through the London area and advise Mr.Reynolds, in order that the Committee may inspect this new type of diesel unit.
