Substitution. A shortage of Swindon Cross Country DMUs led to a 3-car Metro Cammell set being drafted in to work the Aberdeen services, Dundee's Sc51799 seen arriving at Inverness on 8th July 1977. This unit was reallocated to the WR the following year. Murray Liston.

I like this one, even though it's the end of the roll. A class 101 Metro Cammell DMU (C806, presumably 51799) peeks out from behind the station building at Llanwrtyd Wells on 30th June 1986. The DMU was on a Swansea to Shrewsbury service on the Heart of Wales line. It had failed and we were waiting to be rescued. I can't remember how long we were stuck here, but help eventually arrived in the shape of a class 25, which dragged us all the way to Shrewsbury. Jonathan Hazan.

Catching the last rays of winter sunshine hybrid Class 101 DMU set C853 formed 51799+59694+51808 with a 'Calder Valley' class 110 centre coach is seen waiting custom at Newport (Gwent) with train 2B28 the 14.48 Chepstow to Cardiff Central on 01/12/87. Adrian Nicholls.
Hybrid DMU set C853 departs from Maiden Newton sometime in 1988, presumably with 51799 closest. The set was normally formed with a Class 110 centre car at this time but here it has a Class 119 in the middle. Stuart Mackay Collection.

A three-car Class 101/110 Hybrid DMU formed of Class 101 Driving Cars M51808 & M51799 with a former Calder Valley Class 110 Centre Trailer Car, M59694, had just passed through Kirkham North Junction with a Blackpool North to Manchester Victoria service on September 3rd 1988. This was the period when due to ongoing problems with the Class 142 fleet, various combinations of surviving First Generation DMU's were cobbled together to keep services running. Martyn Hilbert.
A Class 101/110 hybrid three-car DMU, formed of Class 101 cars 51808 & 51799 with a former 'Calder Valley' BRCW Class 110 centre trailer, 59694, was making a smoky departure from Southport with the 13.20 to Manchester Victoria on September 18th 1988. The unit had been recently transferred from Cardiff Canton (C853) to Newton Heath depot to provide cover for the then ailing Class 142 Pacer fleet. Martyn Hilbert.
