The BLS "Fife Coast Explorer" railtour in Cameron Bridge station on 29 August 1987. Just partially in shot on the left is 53160, the other vehicles are thought to be 59074 + 53158 / 51993 + 59790 + 52012. Brian Ward.
Met-Camm TBS SC59074 at Snailwell on 15th June 1991. Nicholas Youngman.
Met-Camm TBS SC59074 at Snailwell on 15th June 1991. Nicholas Youngman.
A three-car trailer brake Met-Camm DMU is seen in Thornton Junction station on 1 October 1969, just a few days before closure. Closest with Leven on the destination blind is DMC SC50158, at the time allocated to Dundee. The vehicle would spend the first 32 of its 35 year career on the Scottish Region. Dundee only had one TBSL at the time - SC59074. Transferred to the Scottish Region in 1966 where it remained - other than a brief spell at Chester - until withdrawal in 1991. Stuart Mackay Collection.
A general view of the DMU sidings at the east end of Haymarket depot on the afternoon of Sunday 15.3.81. Notice the mixture of classes (122, 101 and 105) present. From the left and from front to rear, the following are visible : 55000/59074/50160, 51476/59072/..., 51473, 51806/59088/51474. Also to notice is how, from around late 1978 onwards, once the decision had been made to ditch plain blue on multiple units with any sort of life expectancy, St Rollox just went ahead and painted everything in blue/grey, including classes 104 and 105. On the Eastern and Midland these tended to remain in plain blue on the whole because of their short life expectancy. Leonard Rogers.
On an overcast July 24th 1981, a three-car Metro-Cam Class 101 DMU formed of cars SC50160, SC59074 & SC50158 was stood at Markinch whilst forming a Edinburgh Waverley service. Markinch station was still furnished with British Railways 1950's Scottish Region light blue enamel signage including Totems on some of the lamp posts. Driving Motor Brake Second SC50160 eventually went on to carry Strathclyde orange livery, and a subsequent transfer to Chester and then Longsight in the early 1990's. The car found fame and fortune when it was repainted in retro BR green for its final years of operation, and has subsequently passed into preservation. Martyn Hilbert.
101 360 at Stirling circa 1984. The BR logo on the closest power car - SC53192 - appears to be silver rather than white. The other two vehicles are presumably 59074 + 53158. Andrew McConnell.
Two Class 101s at Stranraer, with 101360 (presumably 53158 + 59074 + 53160) closest. The slide process date was August 1985. Stuart Mackay Collection.
A trio at Ardeer. The electrification masts are just waiting for the knitting as 101360 (presumably 53158 + 59074 being the first two vehicles) on a Glasgow Central to Ardrossan working (I think) passes 26031 and rather cleaner sister loco shunting ballast stock at Ardeer near Stevenston. The ICI Nobel Ardeer facility is off to right with one of the works shunters (poss Paxman 7825 of 1958) visible. Most of the site has now been cleared except for a small section operated by Chemring. 7th June 1986. Bruce Galloway.
53241 is not running with its usual 101304 partners when seen at Barassie with a Largs - Glasgow service on August 28, 1986, but with a TBS and DMS from another set, probably 59074 + 53158. Hamish Stevenson.
53241 labelled 101304 (probably with 59074 + 53158) leads into Kilwinning with the 12:35 Glasgow - Ayr on September 24, 1986. Hamish Stevenson.
53241 labelled 101304 (probably with 59074 + 53158) in Kilwinning station with the 12:35 Glasgow - Ayr on September 24, 1986. Hamish Stevenson.
SC53158 at the front of 101360 in Glasgow Central station circa 1987. The TBS should be 59074. Andrew McConnell.
Class 101 DMU 53241 + 59074 + 53158 arriving at Perth on 16 April 1987. 53241 has unpainted window frames unlike the other two vehicles. Keith Miller.
Class 101 Trailer Brake set 101360 in Edinburgh Waverley, the slide process date was May 1987. 53158 appears to be the closest vehicle, the other two are presumably 59074 and 53160. Stuart Mackay Collection.
The Branch Line Society 'Fife Coast Explorer' railtour heads towards Longannet power station on 29 August 1987. Presumed to be taken from 52012 looking towards 59790 + 51993 / 53158 + 59074 + 53160. Brian Ward.
The Branch Line Society 'Fife Coast Explorer' railtour passing Longannet signal box on 29 August 1987. Presumed to be taken from 52012 looking towards 59790 + 51993 / 53158 + 59074 + 53160. Brian Ward.
The BLS "Fife Coast Explorer" railtour in Meadowbank station on 29 August 1987. The vehicles are thought to be 53160 + 59074 + 53158 / 51993 + 59790 + 52012. Brian Ward.
The 11.23 from Haymarket via Shotts is seen arriving at Glasgow Central at 12.57 on 11/7/89. Set 101 360 (53160/59074/53158) has 53158 trailing. In Summer 1989 the south tunnel at Haymarket was closed for electrification works, preventing access to Waverley from the Slateford direction, so the Glasgow Central services were terminating at, and starting from, Haymarket. Leonard Rogers.
M53442, M53431, Sc59074, Sc59525, Sc59049 at Chester await being sent for scrap, 22-5-91. Kevin Dowd.
