A Calder Valley Class 110 three-car DMU with Driving Motor Composite E52076 was arriving at Chorley with a Blackpool North - Manchester Victoria to Leeds service on September 20th 1979. Much has changed in the intervening years, to the right of the DMU in the background is the location of the steeply-graded closed route to Blackburn (with its bridge span under Stump Lane) that last saw a passenger train in 1960. To the left of this view is the disused bay platform and just beyond the terraced houses where there is now a car park and McDonalds Restaurant, and in the distance the now removed Gasometer. The original stone faced platforms at Chorley were furnished with 1960's electric lights that had replaced the original gas lamps. The platforms were rebuilt and the track re-aligned in 2016 in preparation for higher line speeds when the route is electrified. Martyn Hilbert.

One of the aesthetically pleasing Class 110 BRCW 'Calder Valley' dmu sets is seen at York on 2nd July 1981. The leading car , E51809, was ex shops on 5/6/81 explaining its pristine condition. It lasted in service until 1989 before being cut up at Vic Berry's yard in Leicester. Here E51809 is leading E59814 and E52076. The redundant four character headcode panel has been plated over, this modification happened from around 1977 onwards following the abandonment of the codes. Gerard Fletcher.
