A Class 101 2-car set with E54383 leading (recently renumbered from E56383) waits under the NER footbridge at Cottingham with a service from Bridlington to Hull on 29th July 1983. On the left, a Class 108 set departs for Beverley. Cottingham station has changed little since this photo was taken; the old footbridge still creaks under the weight of passing feet, but the 1st generation DMUs which served the line for 30-odd years are long gone. A Carlisle-York service in the hands of two Metro-Cammell two car sets made up of cars E54383 + E53217 / E53135 + E54092 stop at Settle, next to the London Midland Rly sign that tells us Carlisle is 71 miles away to the North, and London is 236 miles away to the South. 16th August 1985. Cravens DMBS SC51484 in an early version of Rail Blue livery with a yellow panel, circa 1967. It is paired with original partner SC56473, still in green, with which it ran until at least 1973. On the right is Met-Camm DTCL SC56383, in another early version of Rail Blue livery, with yellow cab doors. Location unknown, all three vehicles were allocated to Hamilton depot at the time.
