Ex-works Birmingham Railway Carriage and Wagon Co. class 104 DMU unit Nos.E50583-E59225-E50579 forming the 10:10 service from Ely to Norwich getting underway from Brandon station, Suffolk, on 24th September 1979. Gordon Edgar.
Class 116 DMS E50898 leads a DMU formation into Ilford. The slide process date was November 1980, but the trees suggest this was a few months before. The next two vehicles are Class 104s, the TBLS being E59225 transferred from Norwich to Stratford in early August that year. On the rear is a Cravens set. Stuart Mackay Collection.
Three car class 104 set 50560 - 59225 - 50579 on the fuel road at Stratford depot on 13/Sep/1980. They had recently been transferred from Norwich and 50560 still has its Norwich destination blind as evidenced by showing 'King's Lynn', which was not present on the Stratford blind. Both power cars worked for a couple more years before being withdrawn from Stratford in early 1982. The trailer car fared better, being transferred a couple of times until ending its days at Ayr in 1987. Interestingly 59225 was delivered new in a 4-car set which included 50579. Robert Chilton.
Class 104 trailer E59225 in all blue livery is sandwiched between class 108 power twins M52053 nearest and M52059 at Manchester Victoria on 16th July 1983 having arrived on a service from Blackpool North Kevin Law.

Most of the vehicles drafted in after the Ayr Depot fire had seen better days elsewhere. The station roof needs some attention. The good old days!? Tuesday 24 January 1984. alicia hartman.
