Manchester - Rochdale
DMUs were introduced to Manchester Victoria - Rochdale services as part of the Manchester Part Two Scheme.
The Manchester Part Two Scheme covered South East Lancashire and the the first part was introduced on Monday 9 June 1958 covering Manchester Victoria, Oldham, Royton and Rochdale. Cravens power twins were used (allocated to Newton Heath) — the extra power was required for the 1 in 59/49 out of Victoria station and the long 1 in 50 to Oldham (Werneth).
A folded leaflet was made available to the public promoting the new trains on the route:
Newton Heath would receive other power twins such as Class 108s and Class 112s which would also operate the services.

In the centre, beyond the bridge, on Newton Heath depot, is 53087/54398. In the distance is 142 006 and on the right is 142 089 forming the 15.36 Shaw to Manchester Victoria via Oldham.
