DMU Operations: London Midland Region

Manchester - Macclesfield - Stoke-on-Trent

Services ran from Manchester (London Road) Piccadilly through Stockport Edgeley, Cheadle Hume, Macclesfield Hibel Road, Kidsgrove Central to Stoke-on-Trent.

Stoke was also served by Crewe - Stoke - Derby and Birmingham - Stoke DMU services at this time.

DMUs were introduced to these services on 3 March 1958 using three-car BRC&W (Class 104) sets as an extension to the Manchester - Macclesfield services introduced on 8 October 1956 using Derby Lightweights, replaced by BRC&W sets from June 1957.

Manchester Piccadilly - Stoke-on-Trent would also be one of the routes covered by the Longsight Met-Camm fleet in the late 1990s/early 2000s.
