A Derby suburban triple DMU, W50090 closest, seen to the north of Pontypool Crane Street on April 1962. Michael Mensing.
Trains waiting at Paignton Great Western station on 3rd January 1975. The DMU (50090 closest?) is headed for Exeter St Davids and the Class 50 diesel 50038 for London (Paddington). Pete LG99.
Class 116 suburban unit P322 (presumably 50090 + 59352 + 50132) heads a six-coach train along the sea wall and into Teignmouth in August 1975. Passengers would have had a good view in return for the spartan conditions. Tony Watson.
Class 116 DMU set P322 (presumably 50090 + 59352 + 50132) passes a Western with a rake of Mk2s as it arrives into Newton Abbot with the 12:56 from Paignton on 2 November 1975. Stuart Mackay Collection.
Instamatic Interludes. Derby Suburban DMBS sits quietly at Kilmacolm, waiting to form the 16:03 service to Glasgow Central. No passengers visible, perhaps a portent of the ill winds to come. However, passengers weren’t likely to take a train into town at this time as there were no return services from Glasgow beyond early evening. Nearest is DMBS Sc50090 which looks to be reasonably fresh out of works and doesn’t seem to have a destination blind fitted. Despite displaying Set 128, the other vehicles are 107 TS Sc59805 (all blue) and 107 DMS Sc52017. Saturday 04 August 1979. alicia hartman.
Class 116 set 128 (50090) sitting in Glasgow Central beside EMU 311 097. Date unknown but circa 1980 / early 1981. Malcolm Clements.
Derby suburban DMU set 116385 arrives into Glasgow Central station circa early 1980s, SC50090 is closest, the other two vehicles are presumably 59344 and 50132. Paul Redmond.
Class 116 DMU set 116385 (50090 and presumably 59344 + 50132) in Springburn station on 5 January 1983. Brian Daniels.
Class 116 DMU set 116 387 (formed 53090 + 59330 + 53881) is seen at East Kilbride station having arrived with the 10.00 from Glasgow Central on 09.07.1985. This line survived as a branch as it formed part of the Glasgow suburban network but was once a through route to Hamilton. The line that once extended beyond where the buffer stops are used to go through to Hunthill Junction on the Hamilton & Strathaven line. Adrian Nicholls.
Largs station in 1986. The tracks on the right are out of use, on the left is a Class 116 / 107 hybrid, the DMBS being 53090 labelled as set 385. Corriebob.
Railtour. Looking west as BLS Railtour crawls round to Old Kilpatrick. The leading Set is a Class 120 with MC centre car whilst Set 385 on the rear is a Class 116 including a 120 DMS. The line stopped short of the Caledonian station (closed in 1964) in advance of the Erskine Bridge seen in the background. Completed in 1971 the Bridge replaced the Erskine Ferry for which the CR station would have been well placed. The North British station at Kilpatrick was to the north of the village. The oil refinery was rail served (just visible to the left) but traffic probably ceased round about the late 70's and the adjacent Admiralty siding probably some time long before that. Saturday 23 August 1986. alicia hartman.
Railtour. Looking west between Dalmuir Riverside and Old Kilpatrick on Caledonian L & D as BLS six car DMU with Sc53090 leading returns to the (North British) mainline at Clydebank Central Junction. The Chivas Regal blending plant and bonded warehouses on the left were rail served (behind camera) but traffic was probably on its way out by this time. Whisky container tanks and VDAs were propelled back to Dalmuir Riverside for rounding before returning to Elgin / Keith via Mossend. The Erskine Bridge is visible against the skyline in the distance. Saturday 23 August 1986. alicia hartman.
Railtour. Looking west as six car BLS DMU pauses on the Caledonian L & D overbridge spanning Dumbarton Road in Clydebank. The traincrew have been talking to the signalman at Clydebank Dock Junction (actually in Yoker) before getting the road to the mainline at Clydebank Central Junction. The line to the right is a steeply graded BRB connection put in during the mid 70s from the CR line to the NB line below (forming Clydebank Central Junction). This allowed closure of the parallel CR line from here to Scotstoun West. Saturday 23 August 1986. alicia hartman.
The Branch Line Society "The Clyde Forth" railtour on 23 August 1986. This is thought to be taken at Hawkhead, which was the first stop after the departure from Glasgow. Class 116 DMBS 53090 is closest. Brian Ward.
Class 116 DMBS 53090 sits next to 303 081 in Milngavie station with the Branch Line Society "The Clyde Forth" railtour on 23 August 1986. Brian Ward.
53090 on the end of the Branch Line Society "The Clyde Forth" railtour at Old Kilpatrick on 23 August 1986, the Erskine Bridge seen above. There was once an Arnott Young breakers yard near here that cut up some DMUs. Brian Ward.

T041 (53090 + 53268) at Manchester Piccadilly working 13:41 to Chester via Northwich, 3rd October 1990. Gazza Prescott.
Class 116 DMU set P322 (W50132 + W59352 + W50090) arrives into St Erth station on 26 July 1972. Stuart Mackay Collection.
Class 131 (converted Class 122) parcel unit Sc55013 sits on Haymarket depot on 14 April 1979. On the left is Class 116 DMBS 50090. Ian Charles.

DMU set 116 387 is seen waiting to leave East Kilbride with the 11.12 to Glasgow Central on July 9th 1985. The DMBS (far end) is 53090, the other two vehicles are believed to be 53881 + 59330. Adrian Nicholls.
Class 116 centre car 59374 in Glasgow Central station in 1986. It is between a Class 116 DMBS and Class 120 DMS - presumably 53090 and 53673. Andrew McConnell.
The Branch Line Society "The Clyde Forth" tour at South Leith on 23 August 1986. It is formed 53651 / 59124 / 53736 + 53673 / 59374 / 53090, the train running about an hour late at this time. Alan Rintoul.
Branch Line Society "The Clyde Forth" railtour on 23 August 1986 crosses the bridge over Dumbarton Road at Clydebank on the former Lanarkshire and Dumbartonshire Railway line. Taken from 53090 looking towards 59374, 53673 and 53736. Brian Ward.
A view from the Branch Line Society "The Clyde Forth" railtour on 23 August 1986 as it travels on the former Lanarkshire and Dumbartonshire Railway line between Clydebank and Old Kilpatrick. Taken from 53090 looking towards 59374, 53673, 53736, 59124 and 53651. Brian Ward.
53651 + 59124 + 53736 / 53673 + 59374 + 53090 at Menstrie with the Branch Line Society "The Clyde Forth" railtour on 23 August 1986. Brian Ward.
53651 + 59124 + 53736 / 53673 + 59374 + 53090 during the Gunnie Cement Works (Coatbridge) stop of the Branch Line Society "The Clyde Forth" railtour on 23 August 1986. Brian Ward.
The Branch Line Society 'Clyde-Forth' railtour is seen at Menstrie on the freight only branch from Cambus Junction to Glenochil Distillery and yeast factory at Menstrie on August 23, 1986. Formed of two hybrid 3-car sets, 120/101 53651+59124+53736 and 116/120 set 53673+59374+53090 trailing. This line was once a passenger branch from Cambus Junction near Alloa to Alva but lost its service on 01/11/1954. It was retained as a freight branch initially to Alva but the section beyond Glenochil Distilley to Alva closed on 24/02/1964. The branch to Menstrie was retained for inbound grain and molasses traffic but only generated wagon load flows. It was a victim of the demise of the Speedlink wagon load network disbanded by BR in July 1991 and fell into disuse thereafter. Adrian Nicholls.
Railtour. Looking east as BLS six car DMU approaches Old Kilpatrick on the remains of the Caledonian's Lanarkshire & Dunbartonshire route. The former Admiralty oil storage tanks were served by a siding behind the building on the far right but was long out of use at that time. The leading Set is a Class 120 (with MC centre car) 53651+59124+53736 and the trailing Set is a Class 116 (with 120 DMS) 53673+59374+53090. Saturday 23 August 1986. alicia hartman.
Class 101 no. 53242, recently transferred from Eastfield and still displaying set number 101364, is seen at Sheffield on a gloomy afternoon temporarily paired with class 110 DMBS no. 52066. 53242 would shortly go on to Tyseley depot and become part of set T032 paired with class 116 DMBS no. 53090 and later DMBS no. 53844. Robert Chilton.
Hybrid class 101/116 DMU set T041 (53268+53090) is seen waiting time at Ironbridge Gorge with the 17.45 to Birmingham New Street. The temporary station was located at the 161 mile 20 chain mark just south of Coalbrookdale Viaduct on the Madeley Junction to Ironbridge Power Station freight line. It came into use on 30/6/1987 and closed on 3/9/1990. It made one appearance in the BR all line timetable in the summer 1990 edition (table 74). There were two return journeys on Sundays only between 29th July and 2nd September 1990. Prior to that it was an unadvertised service sponsored by the local authority and Ironbridge Gorge Trust. The method of working seeing as the branch was still twin track back then was for passenger trains to run to Ironbridge Power Station Reception Lines first to reverse then gain the up line where the platform was located. Adrian Nicholls.
Class 101/116 hybrid set T041 (presumably 53268 + 53090) is seen at Chester on 13 October 1990. George Woods.
