Barmouth on Sunday 20/8/1972. In a more enlightened era, Sunday services were offered to West Midlanders to enable them to spend a day on the Cambrian Coast. This 101 unit (with TY400 closest, presumably (50321 59114 50303) is preparing to run into Barmouth were it will work back to Birmingham New St. Another unit (CR251) rests in the excursion platform. Metro-Cammell unit 50321 is not too environmentally friendly as it waits to depart from Birmingham New Street. The train is the 13.05 Longbridge - Four Oaks, across from the train 45 120 waits to head for Bristol. While on Dark Lane bridge at Hatton on 15 September 1998 I was surprised to see a class 101 DMU coming down the bank from Hatton station. It turned out to be 101842 with cars 53321 + 53314 providing the power and traction for test coach Iris, 975010, the AEC engines in which rarely seemed to be in operation. Peter Tandy.
