A pair of Cravens 2-car units pass at Harpenden East in 1964. Looking at a timetable of the period, these are possibly the 6.25pm Welwyn Garden City to Dunstable and the 6.28pm Luton Bute Street to Welwyn Garden City which crossed at 6.40/6.41pm. 29th March 1965

A Cravens 2-car set waits at a tired looking Dunstable North station before returning to Hatfield on Monday 29 March 1965, just under a month before passenger services ceased. This would be the 3.07pm departure, the first train since 8.45am. No wonder the line closed! The van is occupying the bay platform used by former LNWR trains from Leighton Buzzard, which had last run in 1962. Kevin Lane Collection.

24th April 1965

Passenger services between Dunstable North, Luton and Hatfield ceased on 26 April 1965. Two days before, a Cravens two-car waits for time at Dunstable North, carrying an unofficial 'Skimpot Flyer' headboard, fitted by the South Bedfordshire Locomotive Club. Kevin Lane Collection.

Luton Bute Street. It's the 24 April 1965, two days before the end of passenger trains between Hatfield, Luton and Dunstable North. A two-car Cravens set is waiting to leave for Dunstable; freight services continued to run on this section until 1989. Another Cravens can be seen in the distance. Kevin Lane Collection.
