Lincoln-Sheffield

DMUs seem to have been introduced to these services circa 1959, with Derby Heavyweights (Class 114s) allocated to Sheffield Darnall (until 1962) and Lincoln. The occassional other type could be found - 104s and 105s, from the mid-1980s other types were much more common.

Class 114 DMU at Woodhouse

1974

A "Lincoln Set" class 114 approaches Woodhouse station with a Lincoln - Sheffield working in 1974. As can be seen, Woodhouse yard was still busy at this time, albeit mostly as an overflow for Beighton Junction PW yard, and was shunted every morning by a trip from Tinsley. In later years, the loops to the right of the running lines were used by MGR trains to run-round before heading to Cottam or West Burton power stations. John Crooks.

1974

In 1974 a "Lincoln Set" pauses at Woodhouse station, Sheffield, on it's way back to it's home base. The slow lines which passed around the back of the platforms were still in regular use at this time, and above the train can be seen the last gantry of the "MSW" electrified lines from Manchester via Woodhead. Rotherwood exchange sidings, a regular haunt of mine, is situated above the RH end of the station footbridge. John Crooks.

Class 105 DMU at Lincoln Central

A Lincoln allocated Class 105 with vehicles E51288 and E56445 and Sheffield on the destination blind entering Lincoln Central from the east. The slide process date was September 1975 so circa summer 1975. Stuart Mackay Collection.

Class 104 DMU at Lincoln Central

10th September 1975

Taken in the days when there were two passenger stations in Lincoln, here are BRCW Class 104 cars E50597 and 56186 standing at Lincoln Central having arrived on the 12.10 from Sheffield. Lincoln St Marks site is now a shopping centre whose name is in the style of an Eastern Region dark blue totem. September 10 1975. Jeremy Chapter.

16th January 1977

On a freezing Winter afternoon, a Derby Class 114 two-car DMU formed of cars E56022 & E50022 was running under clear signals at Worksop whilst working a Lincoln to Sheffield service on January 16th 1977. Martyn Hilbert.

Two Class 114 sets arrive into Retford with the 5.32pm Lincoln - Sheffield on July 6th, 1978. E56036 is at the front, it would later become one of the Royal Mail red parcel cars. Michael Mensing.

Class 114 DMU at Lincoln Central

21st April 1981

With pedestrians waiting at the level crossing gates on High Street, Derby built Class 114 Driving Motor Brake Second (DMBS) E50004 was departing from Lincoln Central with a service to Sheffield on April 21st 1981. E50004 was in refurbished white with blue stripe livery, whilst its trailer car was still in blue/grey. The third vehicle is a Cravens. Martyn Hilbert.
