DMUs were introduced on services from Glasgow Central to Lanark as part of the Lanarkshire Lines group of services.
Lanark was also served by DMUs on services to Muirkirk until that line closed in October 1964.
DMUs used were Hamilton allocated Class 100, 101, 105 and 107s. DMUs were replaced by EMUs in 1974 when the branch to Lanark was included in the West Coast Mail Line Electrification scheme.
