GRC&W Twins (Class 100s) took over the services on Monday 9 June 1958, the same date as the Edinburgh Inner Circle service. In the run up to the introduction the Scottish Region placed a series of adverts in local newspapers to build public interest in the diesels.
Most services used the direct route, a few would also use the Inner Circle.
Passenger services ended in September 1964.
