This was just a 7½ mile journey. After crossing the Tay Bridge trains for the branch left the main Dundee - Edinburgh route at Wormit.
DMUs were introduced to one service on the line from 4 August 1958, with it expected be almost entirely diesel worked from the new timetable on 15th September 1958.[1]
Passenger services to Tayport ended in May 1966, a service from Dundee to Newport-on-Tay East continued until May 1969.
