The diesel services northwards from Edinburgh into Fife were launched on 4 April 1960 (postponed from 6 March), the same day that pairs of Class 26s took over Edinburgh - Aberdeen services.
Dunfermline was also served at the time by DMU services from Edinburgh to Stirling (via Alloa) and Edinburgh - Perth.
Met-Camm three-car DMUs were the main traction at launch, over the years any other DMU types allocated to Leith Central/Haymarket would also appear such as Gloucesters and Cravens.
Dunfermline Upper station closed on 7 October 1968 (Dunfermline Lower — now named Dunfermline Town — remained open). Around that time the Edinburgh - Dunfermline services were extended to Cowdenbeath / Cardenden services, turning into Fife Circle service in the 1990s operated by Class 117s.
The end of First Generation DMUs on the route was in November 1999.

This, and the next one, were small booklets that were not full timetables but a summary only showing the times for the stations at each end of the journey. This one also included services to Perth and Stirling.
This one was for only the Dunfermline stations and Rosyth Halt - this being the only stop after the junction from the Edinburgh - Kirkcaldy - Dundee line at Inverkeithing.
