The first DMU on the service was a Met-Camm Lightweights borrowed from the Eastern Region which was used for a few weeks from 11 June 1956.
GRC&W Twins (Class 100s) took over the services on 17 February 1958. In the run up to the introduction the Scottish Region placed a series of adverts in local newspapers to build public interest in the diesels.
Services on this route to Galashiels via Peebles ended in February 1962, except the Waverley - Rosewell & Hawthornden section which closed in September 1962. Galashiels would continue to be served by the Waverley route services for a few years longer.

A Gloucester C&W twin set passing Craigentinny on 6 October 1958. 'Edinburgh Waverley via Peebles' is on the destination blind which suggests it has come from Galashiels. Stuart Mackay Collection.
A Gloucester RC&W DMU at Peebles with a Galashiels service. Undated, but the platform canopy has a paint date of 14/5/58 and it still looks clean so this is possibly late 1958 or 1959. Walter Burt.
The view from a Gloucester twin DMU at Cardona station on 30 September 1961. This was on the line between Peebles and Galashiels and the station closed in February 1962 Stuart Mackay Collection.
The 2.06pm Galashiels - Edinburgh Waverley is seen at Rosewell on the 3rd February 1962, the last day of services. Hamish Stevenson.
Token change at Leadburn. Taken from a Met-Camm DMU on a Galashiels - Edinburgh service on 3 February 1962, the last day of passenger services on the line. However, no stop was made at Leadburn - the station had closed to passengers in March 1955. Stuart Mackay Collection.
