This train had been a class 47 diagram until the start of the 1989 summer timetable on the 15th May 1989 but had subsequently swapped to a long distance DMU working. Adrian Nicholls.

At this time the south tunnel at Haymarket was closed for electrification works and trains were being diverted over the "Sub" (formally The Edinburgh Suburban and South Side Junction Railway!).
