Still carrying Strathclyde PTE livery and branding, First North Western two-car Class 101 101691 formed of cars 53171 & 51253 was departing from Romiley with the 14.25 Manchester Piccadilly to Marple service on September 29th 2001. The routes from Piccadilly to New Mills Central, Marple and Rose Hill Marple became the last regular stamping-ground for the Longsight allocated Class 101 fleet until they were withdrawn in 2003. Some of the Birmingham to Norwich services were still DMU operated in 1975, and this is the case with the 11.15 Birmingham to Norwich service seen at Melton Mowbray on 18th July 1975. The 'book' formation for set 85 on this date was 50167 + 59523 + 50171. The KDH Archive.
On September 9, 1978, British Rail Eastern Region organised a return trip from Darlington to Eastgate, as far as one could reach on the Bishop Auckland to Wearhead line, and which had lost its passenger service in 1953. The trip was marketed as the "Rail Journey into Yesteryear". Part of this line is now operated as the Weardale Railway. The Metro-Cammell 4-car set was formed 50182 + 59068 + 59113 + 50171, and is seen at Eastgate. Jeremy Chapter.

Travelling towards Buxton on the freight only on the very sharp curve at Blackwell Mills on 30th August 1986, we're travelling on the RCTS railtour "Mancunian Railtour" which was made up of 2 Metro-Cammell 2 car dmu's, the front unit being E53171 and E51222, the rear set 78720 + 78970.
