DMU Operations: North Eastern Region


Leeds - Wakefield - Barnsley - Sheffield

This route known as the Hallam Line would cross from North Eastern territory at the Leeds end onto Eastern Region lines at the Sheffield end.

The images show a variety of mainly Leeds allocated DMUs working the service: 108s, 110s, 111s and 114s.

Class 101 DMU at Sheffield

circa late 1960s

A Met-Camm DMU with NE50150 closest seen departing from Sheffield. The notes with the negative, taken by HC Casserley, had 1964 yet the centre car is in Rail Blue (with painted window frames and 3" numbers) which dates it to a few years later. Stuart Mackay Collection.

Passing Horbury Junction on 15 July 1984 is Class 114 E53045 and E54004 with a Leeds to Sheffield train, they are in the special livery to celebrate 10 years of the South Yorkshire PTE, the only train to carry this livery. Keith Long.
