DMU Operations: North Eastern Region
Leeds - Wakefield - Barnsley - Sheffield
This route known as the Hallam Line would cross from North Eastern territory at the Leeds end onto Eastern Region lines at the Sheffield end.
The images show a variety of mainly Leeds allocated DMUs working the service: 108s, 110s, 111s and 114s.

A Met-Camm DMU with NE50150 closest seen departing from Sheffield. The notes with the negative, taken by HC Casserley, had 1964 yet the centre car is in Rail Blue (with painted window frames and 3" numbers) which dates it to a few years later. Stuart Mackay Collection.

The 15:33 Sheffield - Leeds service is seen at Dewsbury on 21 March 1977. Formed of a Class 114 DMU, the closest car appears to be E50041. Michael Mensing.

The 15:16 to Sheffield via Wakefield Kirkgate awaits departure from Leeds on 2 July 1977 formed of a Class 114 DMU. Michael Mensing.
6th July 1978
Four Class 114 DMUs are seen in Sheffield station on 6 July 1978. E50025 is closest on the right with the 10:41 to Leeds, the set in the adjacent road will work the 10.55 to Retford. Michael Mensing.

8th October 1980
A Sheffield to Leeds train formed of a two-car Cravens (of Sheffield) dmu arrives at Barnsley station on October 8, 1980. The platforms here were staggered to allow for an overlap in case a southbound train overshot the signal protecting the level crossing. Jeremy Chapter.
