DMUs were introduced to the services in July 1957 with Hull allocated sets, mainly Cravens (Class 105s).
Over the years other types would also become common such as 101, 104s and 108s.

The 20.26 Hull to Bridlington dmu is waiting to depart from Beverley when seen in the station on 5th February 1975. It is formed of a hybrid set, the vehicle closest being a Met-Camm. The KDH Archive.
Taken with a very cheap Dixons own-brand (Prinz) camera on Boots slide film, this picture shows the 15.48 Hull to Scarborough (the class 104 BRCW 4-car unit on the left) and an ex-Scottish Cravens class 105 Driving Trailer (E56471) on the right. Taken on 12 September 1975. Jeremy Chapter.
What looks to be a 4-car Class 104 calls at Hutton Cranswick with the 1535 Scarborough-Hull, 17/07/1976. Graeme Phillips Collection.
A 4-car Class 104 unit calls at Beverley with the 1535 Scarborough - Hull on 17/07/1976. Graeme Phillips Collection.
A truly dreadful photo with camera shake owing to the low speed necessary in the low light shows a pair of 4-car diesel units at Filey Holiday Camp on 18 June 1977, one month before the station closed. The station was at the end of a short branch from the Hull to Scarborough line and this train has come from one and is bound for the other, but I cannot remember which. The rear coach, which would have been leading on arrival, says "Scarborough" on the destination blind so this may be a northbound working. Nearest the camera is a refurbished Derby set (class 108) while a blue BRCW set is on the other end. This latter was a 3-car class 110 "Calder Valley" with a class 104 trailer added. Jeremy Chapter.
A Class 101 Metro-Cammell dmu arrives at Beverley on a Bridlington to Hull working. Note the closeness of the signalboxes. At this time the service on the Scarborough-Hull line got more frequent the nearer you got to Hull. The Scarborough service was irregular but around two hourly, with more trains between Hull and Bridlington and at times a half-hourly service between Hull and Beverley. Tony Watson.
A Scarborough-Hull dmu passes the crossing at Sands Lane, near Hunmanby, in September 1977. Tony Watson.
A Met-Camm DMU formation at Seamer in 1979. Ian Dinmore/railarchive.org.uk.
Seen leaving Bridlington, and with a bit of hybrid livered set at the rear, this is the 16.xx Scarborough to Hull service on the 24th of August 1979. 50226 seems to be the leading car. The KDH Archive.
A rake of "coaches" departing Bridlington behind 20004 & 20106 (the former engine shed is visible on the left), working the 11.43 Scarborough to Hull on a summer Saturday, 15/9/79. What is unusual is that the scratch rake has been formed including some class 124 vehicles amongst the Mark 1's. Lindsay Walters.
The driver of a Scarborough bound local service gives me a friendly wave as the unit leaves Hull Paragon. Always thought the MetCamms looked quite smart in the refurbished livery especially with the polished window surrounds and while they still provided first class accommodation. 3rd July 1981. The leading car appears to be E56066. Bruce Galloway.
The train to Scarborough waits in Hull Paragon's beautiful North Eastern Railway 1904 trainshed on 1st October 1981 formed of a Met-Camm unit. Pete LG99.
A three-car Class 111 DMU with a Scarborough service in Hull (Paragon) station, date unknown. DMCL E51551 is closest, allocated to Neville Hill depot. Paul Redmond.
