Many different services ran over this coastal route. Trains to / from Edinburgh, Glasgow, Arbroath, Dunfermline are examples, some were though services, some terminated at Crail. The northern section to St Andrews had a more regular service.
Closure would be in stages, St Andrews to Leven in September 1964, Leuchars to St Andrews in January 1969, and finally Leven to Thornton in October 1969.

A Met-Camm triple DMU arrives into Leuchars Junction station with an Anstruther service on 4 September 1965. Stuart Mackay Collection.
8th July 1964 sees this 101 at Anstruther. Contrary to the destination blind, this is believed to be the 2:42 PM from Dundee Tay Bridge to Edinburgh Waverley - It is believed that the Anstruther destination was used to dissuade passengers going to Edinburgh from taking this slow service through the East Neuk. Anstruther was a passing loop, but apparently the points at the East end had been plain lined meaning that Westbound trains went through the station on the Eastbound line then reversed into the station so that an Eastbound train could pass. David Pearson.
Two three-car Met-Camm DMUs in Crail station in 1965. Walter Burt.
The 2.26pm Thornton - Crail service crosses Largo viaduct on the 3rd April 1965. Hamish Stevenson.

The 18:47 Leven - Glasgow Queen Street service arrives into Polmont station on 21 July 1967. it is formed of a three-car Met-Camm DMU, set number 210 is on the cab front of the DMCL - which was originally an NER vehicle. Stuart Mackay Collection.

Two Met-Camm DMUs approach Polmont station on 20 April 1968. Leven is on the destination blind, presumably on a service from Glasgow. Both three-cars are the same mixed livery: DMCLs in Loco Green with revised lining and yellow first class stripe; TCLs in DMU green with original lining and white/cream first class stripe; and the DMCSs are in blue. Stuart Mackay Collection.

A three-car trailer brake Met-Camm DMU is seen in Thornton Junction station on 1 October 1969, just a few days before closure. Closest, with Leven on the destination blind, is DMC SC50158, at the time allocated to Dundee. The vehicle would spend the first 32 of its 35 year career on the Scottish Region. Dundee only had one TBSL at the time - SC59074. Transferred to the Scottish Region in 1966 where it remained - other than a brief spell at Chester - until withdrawal in 1991. Stuart Mackay Collection.
A three-car Met-Camm DMU (a TBSL set, with the rear car still in green) arrives into Dysart station with a service to Leven on 6 October 1969. This was the last day of the Leven service, and also the last day that Dysart station was open. Stuart Mackay Collection.
