Class 115 DMU at Marylebone

23rd October 1979

With several Class 115 DMU sets ticking-over under the overall roof, Driving Motor Brake Second M51671 was stood at the former Great Central terminus at Marylebone with a service to Aylesbury on October 23rd 1979. These Derby built 'Suburban' high-density Class 115 4-Car DMU's with doors to every seating bay, were commonplace on services to and from Marylebone from being new in 1960 until the final examples were replaced by 'Turbos' in 1992. Martyn Hilbert.

Class 115 DMU at Paddington

9th June 1991

Not a brilliant quality shot, but included because it was unusual to see a class 115 set at Paddington. DMBS 51671 is seen at the rear of a 4-car set made up with 59747, 54499 and 51889 and with Princes Risborough on the destination blind, 9/Jun/1991. Robert Chilton.

The vehicle is mentioned in the following images:

The tour ran from Marlyebone to Crewe and returned to St Pancras, outward via Neasden, High Wycombe, Aylesbury, Bedford, Leicester and Derby, return via Derby and the Midland Main line. DMU

Date: 19th July 1985

A Marylebone based class 115 passes on the down main line at Leamington Spa with am 1L04 High Wycombe to Matlock charter operated by Chiltern Trains on on 19 July 1985, long before privatisation and the official adoption of that name by the TOC. The set comprised of vehicles 51675, 59763, 59649 and 51671 and with 4 coaches was a relatively unusual sight at Leamington. The signal for the up main was on green so there had been a reasonable chance of a really messy picture with a third train in shot as the special passed a class 116 unit in platform 2 but all was well on this occasion. Peter Tandy.

Date: 31st March 1990

Pressed Steel Class 121 DMBS 55030, BR Derby Class 115 TCL 59764, DMBS 51671 and Class 108 54499 outside Doncaster Works on 31 March 1990. Dave Warby.

DMU

Date: 9th June 1991

A work-weary looking class 115 DMBS no. 51889 leading a 4-car set including a class 108 driving trailer (54499) in place of one of the normal trailers, with 59747 and 51671. The set is seen on 9/Jun/1991 leaving the, for a class 115, relatively unusual location of Paddington with the rear power car making quite a smokey departure. By the end of 1991 the leading power car had been withdrawn from service. Robert Chilton.
